Probationary period
A period at the beginning of an employment contract during which both parties may terminate it with immediate effect.
The probationary period (proeftijd) is a trial period at the beginning of an employment contract. During the probationary period, both the employer and the employee can terminate the employment relationship immediately, without notice period and without permission from the UWV or the kantonrechter. The maximum duration is 1 month for contracts of 2 years or shorter, and 2 months for contracts of indefinite duration. A probationary period must always be agreed in writing.
