AOW

The AOW (General Old Age Pensions Act) is the basic pension paid by the government to everyone who has reached the AOW age and has lived or worked in the Netherlands. The AOW age is gradually increasing and linked to life expectancy. Each year of insurance accrues 2% of AOW entitlement. Labour migrants who work in the Netherlands for a shorter period therefore build up a partial AOW entitlement.
